Build It Awards 2017 opens for custom build entries

Build It Awards 2017 opens for custom build entries

The 2017 Build It Awards, in association with BuildStore, have been launched. The annual industry event celebrates excellence in the self and custom build sector, rewarding suppliers, initiatives and projects that excel within the field.

Every year the Build It Awards feature several categories that recognise the efforts of local planning departments and councils who have worked to promote custom build. This year there are three awards up for grabs for councils, custom builders and cohousing groups, open for both completed and on-going schemes.

Once again, Custom Build Strategy is proud to sponsor the awards and will be supporting the 2017 Best Custom Build Project or Model category, won last year by Custom Build by Potton.

Housing People, Building Communities' custom build

Housing People, Building Communities’ Kingsley Road development won the 2016 award for Best Collective Self Build

See the criteria for each category below, or click here for the full list of categories and to download an entry form.

Best Custom Build Project or Model – sponsored by Custom Build Strategy

Cost to enter: £99 + VAT

This award celebrates the best developer or enabler-led custom build initiative. The judges will be looking for innovative schemes and models that either create new self build opportunities, or give home owners significant input into the design and finish of the house. See last years’ winning entry.

Best Collective or Group Self Build – sponsored by Self-Build Zone

Cost to enter: Free

This is a nominated category, celebrating the best community-led self build initiatives in the UK. Nominations can be made by anyone, including those involved in the development. All entries are free, so if a group build or cohousing project impressed you, nominate them and give them the acknowledgement they deserve!

Best Council for Self/Custom Builders

Cost to enter: Free

This is a nominated category for the local planning authority (LPA) that has made the extra effort to enable and promote self and custom building. Nominations can come from councils themselves, developers, enablers or the public. Entries should focus on what the council is doing to facilitate and grow custom build, from either a policy or projects perspective. This category is nominated and is free to enter, giving you the opportunity to give something back to the people that made your development possible. See last years’ winners.

Editor’s comment

Another year of awards sees custom build featuring prominently on the line-up, a fantastic step forward for the industry. The fact that on-going projects can be awarded, as well as finished initiatives, helps us showcase and publicise the huge benefits of custom building and the large variety of approaches that fall within its remit.

We need you to nominate those people that you feel have gone over and above for the custom build market. The nomination process is simple and will give councils and organisations the acknowledgement they deserve. Click here for the full list of categories, and to download an entry form.
