BuildStore tracks over 34,000 would-be custom and self builders

BuildStore’s Custom Build Register has reported it now has over 34,000 individuals registered to find a custom or self build plot, a significant level of interest in the month following the full implementation of The Self-build and Custom Housebuilding Regulations 2016.

Predating the official registers, BuildStore’s Custom Build Register is the longest-running record of custom and self build demand, and lists interest by counties. It is able to create an alternative picture of areas with significant levels of demand for building plots, to support official local authority registers. It is hosted by Custom Build Homes, a division of BuildStore

Buildstore’s CEO Raymond Connor said: “We have a direct dialogue between the public who want to build and local authorities throughout England. We are well aware that some LAs see custom build as yet another obligation they have to fulfil, but we want to help them – both with the information we have gathered and through the knowledge we have of the sector. If we can help councils to help their constituents, we will see custom build grow, providing much needed housing in the areas where it is required.”
