Facit Homes honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for innovative on-site build model

Facit Homes has been honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, for its innovative approach to housing design that involves onsite manufacturing.

The developer received recognition within the awards’ Innovation category, making them the first company within the custom build sector to receive such an accolade.

Facit Homes’ was awarded the UK’s highest prize for successful business practice for its use of modern digital manufacturing techniques, which it uses to design and build ground-breaking homes.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is known internationally as a mark of excellence, praising UK businesses for their outstanding contributions and achievements within four categories: International Trade, Innovation, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity.

The company’s innovative approach to on-site manufacturing is one that can not only speed up housing delivery, but has significant environmental benefits. The company’s raw structural materials are delivered straight to site in flat sheet form, limiting transportation and minimising its carbon footprint.

Similarly, by having the home’s core components delivered to, and assembled, on-site, Facit Homes effectively turns each site into a factory, reducing the overall carbon footprint of each project.

Fact's on-site production unit

The awards’ judges commended Facit Homes on this novel approach to development, praising its central digital design model, which ensures precision design, uniformity and high quality finish.

Additional comment was reserved for the company’s advanced structural system, the Facit Chassis. The judges stated that this innovative production process was, “exceptionally efficient and environmentally respectful.”

Rhys Denbigh, Head of New Business at Facit Homes commented: “Our digital manufacturing process allows for almost unlimited design possibilities. All the core component of our homes, like the chassis and the windows, are designed in the 3D model to suit each individual project and then produced to the exact specifications, meaning customisation is at the heart of all that we do.

“The nature of manufacturing such things is inherently suited to use at scale, but rather than having to replicate the same thing every time we can leverage the technology to create unique elements for each home.”
